******************************************************************
dear ex-, future-, current- and other upcyclers.
everybody!
our time for writing an publication on upcycling is coming closer.
the idea for the project is to collect the experience of 5 years of implementing upcycling in intercultural youth work and to – with a publication – pass the idea to others.
the project will take place from tuesday, october 6 (arrival) until wednesday, october 14 (departure day). we will work in a lovely organic farm house – ökolea, in klosterdorf, at the outskirts of berlin.
in this message i want to address two groups of people:
1.) are everybody who ever participated & or heard about upcycling or are interested in the concept and want to contribute their thoughts/feelings/ideas
2.) people who want to participate in the project directly
for the first ones:
we want to make the publication writing process fully self-organised, that means get as much done as possible for a publication to be print-ready during the one-week project. text writing, theoretical backgrounds, stories, case studies, implementations worldwide…
this will be for me the first time i do something like that ( i mean both – a publication and a self-organised-creating-a-publication-in-a-week) and i and we – all participants – will need all the support you – the readers – can provide us with. seriously.
so if you ever had anything to do with writing or making a publication, no matter how large or small, please share with us, what you find important, essential, what are the stumbling stones and traps possibly waiting for us on the way and what takes more time than one could think or needs a lot of effort/attention?
i also open a discussion on whom / what competences you think we will need.
and here comes the question to everybody, no matter if you will be joining or not:
- what do you think should a book on upcycling include?
- do you have any stories on upcycling?
- have you worked with this method and would like to share your experience?
- is upcycling implemented naturally in your country? send us pictures!
- what does upcycling mean to you?
please post all pictures, stories, comments, hints, ideas on our blog, under the page “publication”. this will be of a huge help for the working team.

and here for the second first ones
to participate in the project we invite from each country 2 people. we’ve got germany, poland, bulgaria, portugal, turkey and northern ireland on board. that makes an overall of 12 participants.
please contact your national coordinator for application process.
portugal – miguel: pertencerparticipando.pe (at) gmail.com
poland – karolina: iwa.karolina (at )gmail.com
germany – also karolina: iwa.karolina (at) gmail.com
turkey – ali: aligulbay (at) gmail.com
bulgaria – zina: ptpi_plovdiv (at) yahoo.com
n.ireland – fergal: thekingisalive (at) hotmail.com
please use this blog to make all the pre-work you think is necessary, contact other participants,
exchange with them on what you think we will need, what resources, skills, tools, technology, materials…
the more we prepare beforehand, the smoother and more relaxed we can work during the week.

hello everybody!
here we sit with antonia in her pretty flat, after a nice breakfast and write hello! to you.
and i for myself wonder – who of you thinks of coming in october to berlin?
we have a very challenging task:
- one week for producing a ready-to-be-printed publication on upcycling, summing up the 5 years of experience –
i would find it sensible if we have people coming who either:
- have experience with upcycling and have participated in at least one upcycling project
- or – have experience writing publications and know how to do layout, work with pictures, write texts
what do you think of it?
who is coming?
post your name below…
